Cédric Dasesson is a photographer who uses the photographic medium as a tool for analyzing and interpreting the contemporary landscape. His research focuses on the dynamics of territorial transformation, investigating the relationships between historical stratification, spatial configuration, and anthropic processes.
For his analysis of the coastal landscape, he developed an investigation protocol operating on three levels – underwater, terrestrial, and aerial – aimed at rendering the morphological and environmental complexity of the coastal area. This methodological approach was applied in collaboration with Sardarch and Conservatoria delle Coste della Regione Sardegna for a coastal mapping project, presented at the Architecture Festival in Cagliari.
Parallel to this, his research extends to the urban and rural landscape, with particular attention to the built environment and its transformations. The partnership with Sardarch materializes in this field through photographic campaigns designed for integration with the planning instruments of various Sardinian municipalities. In this work, the built landscape engages with the social and residential dimension, capturing both the historical characteristics of the architectural heritage and a portrait of the communities inhabiting it.
He collaborates with the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Cagliari (DICAAR) on research projects concerning the Sardinian rural landscape. Since 2018, he has been documenting the UNICAsa self-build project, following its design and construction phases, as well as its social and environmental impacts. This work integrates theoretical research on landscape with applied documentation of innovative design practices.
In 2025, commissioned by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano (DAStU, he created an essay titled “Sono solo di passaggio”. The project, developed within the “Ritratti territoriali della provincia italiana contemporanea” series, analyzes architectures and infrastructures related to mobility, questioning the relationship between transit and the identity configuration of places. The work was exhibited at CRAFT in Milan and constitutes a dialogue between photographic research and urban studies.
Previously, in 2019, he participated in Atlante Architettura Contemporanea, an initiative promoted by MUFOCO and MiBACT, which resulted in the publication “10 viaggi nell’architettura contemporanea” and exhibitions at the Triennale di Milano and the National Roman Museum in Palazzo Altemps.
His works have been exhibited in national and international contexts – including the Biennale di Pisa, Falía*, and the Biennale dello Stretto. They are part of public and private collections, including MUFOCO and the Fondation Vuitton.
His main publications include Level (AB Factory + Banco di Sardegna Foundation), Di notte il mare non dorme mai (DUNP) and Costellazioni (Falía*).
